Goal
In today’s world, where everything has to grab attention quickly, motion design and VJing are powerful tools. So during this week-long workshop, we had to create a teaser and an artist showcase video for a festival. We had two options: either start with an existing festival and stay true to its identity, or completely invent a festival and its identity from scratch. We chose the second option. As for the videos, we had to produce a motion design video unveiling the festival and its lineup (5 to 10 artists) by incorporating existing elements of the festival’s visual identity and finding an original approach.
This video was in two formats: 16:9 landscape and 9:16 vertical, both approximately 15 seconds long. Then a second, more experimental video that explores the visual universe of one of the featured artists. By reusing elements of the festival’s identity from the first video to present an artist by creating a live visual universe for them.

Concept
We decided to create our own festival. We wanted to come up with something experimental and feature only emerging artists, with the goal of giving visibility to those who are just starting out and aren’t very well known. So we created the Cradle Festival. The festival thus becomes a place where artists are born, a space for first steps, and a ground for research and experimentation. Moreover, a cradle is never static: it sways and rocks. We wanted to evoke something alive through this name.
Accordingly, we created a title sequence that evokes birth and experimentation. So we experimented ourselves for these videos, heavily editing them with filters and effects. We played with the rhythm to make our teasers dynamic and echo the festival’s identity.

Fun fact
This project really gave us the chance to experiment as much as possible and try out techniques and effects we rarely use—it was a great learning experience!
